Independent Investigation of Discrimination Complaints

When an employee makes a complaint of discrimination in the workplace, the law requires that the employer investigate the complaint.

A prompt and thorough investigation is not only required, but also protects the employer from disruptive workplace conflict, costly litigation, high jury awards and negative publicity.  The quality of this investigation is important.

Claire Cordon helps public and private employers by providing them with objective and independent investigation of complaints involving employment discrimination, harassment and retaliation.  Such complaints usually involve legally protected attributes like race, sex, age, national origin, religion or disability.

Claire Cordon is also retained by law firms when their clients need an independent investigation of an employment claim.

Because of her many years of experience as an employment law attorney focused on discrimination issues, Claire Cordon is familiar with both the employer and claimant side of complaints.  Her career includes management experience in the public sector.

As a result, she brings a truly neutral approach to the investigation process – along with the proper training, competence and interviewing skills.  If the investigation is challenged, Claire Cordon has credibility and effectiveness as a witness.

Before establishing her own practice as an independent investigator of discrimination complaints, Claire Cordon represented employees and employers as head of the employment law department at a Seattle law firm.

From 1990 to 2000, she represented claimants as a Senior Trial attorney with the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission – the federal agency that enforces the laws against discrimination in employment.  She participated in many administrative investigations as well as individual and class action lawsuits.

In addition to independent investigation of discrimination complaints, Claire Cordon is available as a professional trainer to educate employers and employees regarding their rights and obligations under discrimination laws. She is a respected mediator and expert witness' for defense or plaintiff counsel in discrimination cases.
